What Exactly is a Personal Brand?

Everyone is talking about branding- but what exactly is a personal brand?

It seems like everywhere I turn people are speaking more and more about branding- but what exactly is a “brand”?

Branding for entrepreneurs & creatives in a nutshell

People have come to define a “brand” in different ways. For most, branding is all about a logo and a handful of colors that you choose to represent your business. It’s common for many people to still think of only the visual components of their business when they think of branding.

This is only scratching the surface…

What I’ve discovered after studying brand strategy and the successful entrepreneurs and creatives that I admire and respect the most is- they all have one thing in common. They understand that a brand is more than just pretty Instagram posts or a nice looking website.

They understand that branding is all about creating meaning connections and knowing what you stand for.

Logos and colors can be an important aspect of branding but it’s one of the least important ingredients in my opinion.

Your brand is not simply the aesthetics or what people see when they come across your content. Much of your brand will be about the core message that you consistently communicate to your audience.

Defining Your Brand Gives You the Chance to Think BIGGER About the Impact You Want to Make

You see the heartbeat of your brand is all about defining your mission, vision, and purpose. Once you get clear on these three things, you’re on your way to creating a strong brand foundation to lead your work forward in a meaningful way and cuts back on confusion around what direction to take next!

Mission- knowing what you plan to do through your work (what big change do you seek to make in the lives of others/ what are you on a mission to accomplish)

Vision- understanding your big picture and what you see your work/biz ultimately becoming and achieving in the long run (go all out and shoot for the stars here!)

Purpose- understanding why this is all important to you in the first place (more than just a means to make money)

Get Started!

If you’ve been wondering how to get going on developing your brand, this would be a heck of a start. Get clear on your mission, vision, and purpose. Think big, write it all down, and let it guide you forward as you contemplate your next step.

Brand with depth,
